Safety & Emergency Preparedness
About this page
This page sets out what Whan Amador Prestige Group is aware of and understands about safety in our work, and the procedures we know to follow if an accident or emergency happens: in a client's home, on the road, at an event, at sea or at the vineyard. We share it so that clients, partners and the people who work with us can see how we think about safety.
Emergency numbers
In any emergency, the first call is 112, in Spain and in France. 112 answers in English, Spanish and French.
| Who | Spain | France |
|---|---|---|
| All emergencies (ambulance, fire, police) | 112 | 112 |
| Ambulance / medical emergency | 112 | 15 (SAMU) |
| Fire service | 112 | 18 |
| Police | 091 (Policía Nacional), 062 (Guardia Civil) | 17 |
| Sea rescue | 900 202 202 (Salvamento Marítimo), or VHF channel 16 | 196, or VHF channel 16 |
| Poisoning advice | 91 562 04 20 (Instituto Nacional de Toxicología) | 15 |
Numbers are taken from public sources and checked each year; always use 112 if in doubt.
The first steps in any emergency
- Stay safe. Do not go into danger: move away from fire, smoke, gas, traffic, water or an intruder
- Call 112. Say who you are, exactly where you are, what has happened and how many people are hurt, and stay on the line
- Give first aid only if it is safe and you know how, and follow the 112 operator's instructions
- Guide the emergency services in, especially at gated estates and rural sites
- Inform the people concerned, such as the property owner, and record what happened
What we understand to do in specific situations
| Situation | Understood procedure |
|---|---|
| Injury or illness | Call 112. Keep the person still and warm. If unconscious and breathing, recovery position; if not breathing, CPR as the 112 operator instructs. |
| Fire in a home or vehicle | Get everyone out, closing doors behind, and call 112. Use an extinguisher only on a small fire with a clear exit behind you. Do not go back in. |
| Smell of gas | Do not touch switches or lights. Open doors and windows on the way out, leave, and call 112 and the gas supplier from outside. |
| Flood or burst pipe | If safe, turn off the water at the stopcock and the electricity at the main switch, without standing in water, and call a plumber and the owner. |
| Suspected break-in | Do not enter. Move to a safe place and call 112, then the owner and alarm company. |
| Road collision or breakdown | Hazard lights, hi-vis vest, warning triangles, and everyone behind the barrier. Call 112 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked. |
| Someone in difficulty in a pool or the sea | Shout for help and call 112. Throw something that floats or reach with a pole; do not jump in unless trained and it is safe. |
| Emergency on board a charter | Follow the captain's instructions; the captain raises sea rescue on VHF channel 16. |
| Chemical splash or swallowed product | Rinse eyes or skin with clean water for at least 15 minutes. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; call 112 and take the product label to hospital. |
| Heat illness | Move the person into shade, cool them, give water if conscious; call 112 if they are confused or unconscious. |
| Threatening behaviour | Do not argue, keep a clear exit, leave if unsafe, and call 112 if anyone is at risk. |
Safety in our everyday work
We are aware of the main hazards in our work and of the sensible ways to reduce them:
- Driving: no alcohol before driving, including after a tasting; no phone at the wheel; breaks on long journeys between Spain and France
- Homes, gardens and pools: care on stairs, terraces and wet pool decks; electrics, gas and pool equipment left to qualified specialists
- Wine and tastings: safe lifting of cases, care with broken glass, and responsible service in line with Wine in Moderation
- Fine art: two people and a proper ladder for large or high works
- Filming and drones: flights within licence rules and never over people
- Vineyard work: carried out by registered specialist subcontractors with their own training and equipment
- At sea: the captain's safety briefing followed, and charters arranged only with licensed, insured operators
- Wellbeing: reasonable hours, rest and the right to disconnect
Company vehicles and the vineyard store are being equipped with first-aid kits, fire extinguishers and printed emergency numbers.
